UP UP and away… It was Chase’s first flight and my first in 30 years… it was a lot of fun. It is a little like one of the bigger rides at the amusement park. a little scarey at times and intense and exhilarating. unlike those amusement park rides, most of it was calm. it was a relatively small plane 4 rows of seats with one slim aisle in between. Those are a little like riding on a bus or a truck…you feel more of the bumps in the road… but on a plane there is no road so those bumps and shakes are a little more freaky! Now and again Chase would say “what was that?” or give me this wide-eyed look, but I’d tell him it was just air currents and all is well. Even with that, he enjoyed his first flight very much.
Cousin Glenn met us at luggage pickup and took us to his house on Long Island. We got there around 4 maybe, and spent the evening visiting with him and Marj. Dawn and Mike came over and Danny and Nicole. Nicole couldn’t stay long, but the rest of us enjoyed a long visit and ordered pizza for supper. At night, Marj took Olivia over to Chris and Kevin’s to spend the night. (Thursday)

Glenn and Marj drove us around Long Island. We visited a vineyard and a winery. We saw huge vats where the wine was being prepared, large barrels stored on their sides at proper temperature, and the room where the bottles were filled, corked, and labeled. It was interesting. Then we saw the beautiful scene above. Row after orderly row of beautiful grapes, and a summer storm brewing in the near distance.

We went to Greenport where the road ends and one can take a ferry into Connecticut.
We walked along the shore, picking up rocks, and taking some photos. We only picked up a few because we remembered we did have to fly home! All of us seemed to have a thing for pretty and unusual looking rocks.
This is my first photo in the city. You always hear about the taxis in New York City and how the taxi drivers are crazy. The yellow taxis were everywhere, and the drivers seemed pretty crazy to me! I won’t say a word about Glenn’s driving in the city…

I couldn’t believe I was actually in New York City. Amazing.
First we went to B. B. King’s for a Beatles Brunch show. Marj’s first cousin performs as Ringo and had invited us to be his guests at the show. It was fun and they are good (Strawberry Fields is their name). There was a brunch buffet (both breakfast and lunch foods) out the whole show so everyone could eat all they wanted while watching Strawberry Fields perform as the Beatles. Afterwards we spent the afternoon wandering around in the Times Square area.
Chase said we look like tourists, and I said it doesn’t matter-everyone else are tourists too!

From the top of the Rockefeller Building
Later on, we went to an Italian restaurant for dinner. It was delicious! By the time we were finished, it was dark, so Glenn drove us back to Times Square and other places so we could see it with all the lights and the night crowds. The later it gets, the more people and the crazier the drivers! (Saturday)

“live from New York…”
we went to the top of the Rockefeller building - 70 stories! Gail, I thought of you as we rode up in the elevator – the top of the elevator car was glass so we could look up and see as we quickly traversed the space (there were little blue lights along the way so we could see exactly how far up we were going) – I know you LOVE elevator rides (NOT)! and heights! The view was amazing!! We took pictures of course, and I will post some later when I can upload them. I am too tired tonight to say more (11 hours in the city) but I will later.

(listening to Daughtry again) He is on the radio right now, but I did buy his new c.d. I like it very well. Today is my last day of work this week. My vacation begins tomorrow and that is good. I think everyone knows by now that Chase, Olivia, and I are traveling to New York tomorrow to visit Glenn and his family. We will be flying Delta from Nashville to NYC where Glenn will pick us up (you also probably know that he lives on Long Island.) We are all excited about the trip. Well, maybe I should say Olivia and I are. I don’t know about Chase as we haven’t had much chance to talk lately. As I pointed out to him last night. We are “ships passing in the night”. I ASSUME he is excited about the trip. It is his first flight and first trip to such a big city. Olivia is traveling here (the house, not the office) today and LW will take us to the airport tomorrow. it’s been what? two years since they came to KY? Olivia, Zachary, and Kristin went there last summer, so I am thinking Glenn did come to the reunion two years ago. (Day five)

(listening to Lambert) and eating a breakfast bar. my coffee is cold. have been typing and thinking. what can I get done and how fast. today and tonight. last night I got the stuff picked up outta the floor and the floors swept and mopped. about 4 loads laundry done (between Larry and me). dish washer run and the rest of the dishes washed and counter tops scrubbed. not enough, but it is a start. I think when I get back from NY that I am going to seriously start loading stuff in the pick up and take it away. somewhere. I am going to pretend we are getting ready to move. PRETEND. not wanting to go anywhere. let me make that clear! pretend to be getting ready to move. then get rid of everything I would not want to take with me! I am so over-run with Stuff and so Tired of it! Day Four. oops. something happened to Day Two and Three.

Sitting here listening to Daughtry and liking it. a beautiful wonderful lazy saturday. only lazy because I am letting it be. many many tasks awaiting my attention.
LW came home from a week in church camp again. He says it was a good one and he tells me he has a “sweetheart”. LOL. They play “sweetheart kickball” and the girls have to ask a guy to be her partner because that is the rules. they have to hold hands the entire game, playing kickball, holding hands throughout (running, kicking, catching). So this young girl (about 12 or so) asked him to be her “sweetheart” and he agreed. Most everybody enjoys the fun of that game. He thought it was sweet, that when her mother came to visit, she had to introduce him to her mother as her “sweetheart.”
I had gone to Walmart, needing to have a photo enlarged for a funeral, picked up a few groceries (how could one go to Walmart and not pick up a few more things??) and also picked up the new Daughtry c.d. I am really liking him right now. his singing and his personality. speaking of singing, I sure am looking forward to Adam Lambert’s new c.d. I picked up the American Idol c.d in the store now, looked at the songs on the back, and put it back down. He only has two on it. I guess that is only fair. but it didn’t impress me. I’ll wait for his own.
Heard the phone ringing and went to answer and got distracted because the back door (beside where the phone sits) was open. Saw the back porch looking so inviting with about 1/3 of it still in the sun. Wandered on out there and sat down a few minutes, realizing I had on too many clothes for this. Went back to my room searching for shorts and finding none (I am really not a shorts kinda gal), grabbed a pair of jeans with holes in the knees and a pair of sissors, transformed them into acceptable sitting in the sun attire. Trecked to the basement to pull out the cushion for the chaise lounge, knocking over and breaking a clay pot in my hurry. Back out to the porch to enjoy the sun for awhile. Just seemed like the thing to do. was sitting there soaking in the rays, reading a book about werewolves, drinking lemon water, when it started sprinkling on me. felt so awesome. the sun very bright and hot. my skin wonderfully warm. and rain drops falling lightly. after a few minutes they were gone. my 1/3 of porch in the sun also began to shrink…had to sit sideways and prop my legs on the banister trying to capture a few more minutes of warmth. when the sun finally had left the porch, coming in here to read blogs (which I had noticed earlier in the day) -
By THE WAY – friends of mine -
this blogging thing IS like a relationship. it gets kinda lonesome by yourself. it’s the kind of thing that is fed by attention and response. so- you blog, I blog – you comment, I comment – you get the picture??? (laughter here) I know I know. I should start it more and I should nudge you and I should be the leader, right? I reckon I always was. So we’ll try to do better. (Day ONE)

a lie
I lied.
I didn’t really mean to do it
I had good intentions
but… well, it happens
things get in the way
makes me think of something I read the other day — if there are 24 hours in a day, how come I have so few of them??
or something to that effect

Blog every day for a month?
You probably think I can’t do it – especially since I haven’t done very well lately – maybe I just need a challenge. I usually seem to work better under pressure, get more done in a hurry, ever the procrastinator. As I signed on to WordPress today, looking in vain for new blogs from my circle of friends, I noticed a heading that said “Blog every day for a month”. As you may expect, it is a challenge to blog every day for a month, and impulsively I accepted. So here is the first… and do not be surprised to find yourself challenged to do the same!
I am very excited about a trip I have planned to New York to visit my cousin, Glenn. The Lord willing, Olivia, Chase and I will be flying out July 30. That day is fast approaching! To that end, I have been making a list of a few things I need to purchase before I go. #1 has been a pair of shoes. something comfortable. I have been to Lebanon and Nashville and tried on about 20 pairs of shoes… I can never make up my mind. It did not help that my right foot was giving me a great deal of pain… well, maybe it did, because I used that foot to try them on and quickly eliminated any shoe that did not feel good on my aching right foot. Therefore I came home shoeless. other than what I had on my feet when I left. But I did decide on a pair; I just did not buy that day. I came home and searched the internet… found my shoes for 20% less with no tax and free shipping. I ordered a pair of Keen H2 Newports. I did like them very much.
I think the next item on my list is p.j.s – I don’t think I will take my mis-matched years old pair that I wear around here. Not a pretty sight!

VBS – theme “Fishing with the Master”
Monday night. Nursery classroom. The teacher was in the “boat” trying to tell the bible story:

but she was laughing too hard….
This little dude (without the cake icing) had eluded the helper and was running all over the place, like a little tornado – refusing to be stuffed into the baby seats like the little girls!

Tuesday night. Craft time:

They enjoyed tearing pieces of colored tissue paper and gluing to the “I will share” poster.
Wednesday night. Our class went from this:
to this:

along with an accompanying scurrying about and running down to the house and back up to the classroom trying to come up with adequent supplies and copies… wonderful problem to have! They all enjoyed it so much they came back for Thursday night.

Alergic reaction
Last week, I was given the antibiotic Bactrim, and on the bottle was the label “avoid exposure to sunlight”. I didn’t give it much thought… I don’t work outside; I don’t lay out in the sun; I am in the house most of the time. I took the medicine 5 days and on Saturday morning, I pulled a few weeds in the flower bed and mowed the front yard (which is MOSTLY in SHADE). I know. I know. I should not have been out there – I had just forgotten all about that little label. I did remember after about half an hour, and came inside and LW finished the mowing. Monday I was so sick I couldn’t get up or do anything. I had “flu-like symptoms” – aching all over, chills, sweats, and nausea. I was some better on Tuesday so I went to work, but by the time I got home, I had a rash working it’s way all over my body, then came back the pain all over and the chills and shaking. I was unable to do anything but wrap up in blankets and try to stop shaking. I took benedryl and ibuprophen. I spent Tuesday night and Wednesday in this manner. I did call the doctor twice, and was told to let her know if I developed any problems with breathing or abnormal heart rhythms, otherwise to take benyldril every 4 hours until better. In other words, I had to wear it out. So I have missed two more days of work. Today, I am sitting up, not shaking, but still hurting very much and still covered in a measles-like rash.
So the next time I see the label, “avoid exposure to sunlight” – I will be wearing long sleeves, rushing from door to car etc, wearing sunglasses, a hat, and doing anything else I can to avoid the exposure!!! I advise you to do the same.
